WAXING DO'S AND DON'TS

Waxing is one of my favorite things to do! For so many people, it is their best option. Laser is too expensive, shaving may hurt and cause a rash, and products like nair just don't do the job.
Here are a few tips on the do's and don't for waxing:
-DO exfoliate the area 12-24 hours BEFORE a wax - (the hair comes out so much easier, and exfoliating the dead skin off helps the wax stick to the hair more than the skin)
-DO have your hair at least 1/4 of an inch, and no more than and 1 inch long - (if it is too short, it will not come out)
-DO if your hair is too long, trim it BEFORE a wax (it will hurt more if you don't)
-DO release your ingrown hairs 3-4 days BEFORE a wax but DO NOT remove them
-DO exfoliate the area starting 48 hours AFTER a wax (it helps keep ingrown hair from forming, or to a minimum)
-DO apply a cool compress AFTER a wax (it helps with swelling and redness)
-DO take some ibuprofen or tylenol an hour before your wax (it will help with pain, and swelling)

-DO NOT take hot baths for the remainder of the day (heat will irritate it more)
-DO NOT go in the sun, or tan for at least 24-48 hours after (you shouldn't anyway)
-DO NOT wear tight clothing after a wax (irritation and rubbing will cause ingrown hairs)

There are also a few contraindications you should know about before getting waxed. *If you are on any acne medications like accutane or retin A or renova, you should stop using them a week prior to getting waxed. If not, your skin will most likely tear.
*If you are on any birth control, antibiotic, or blood thinners, you should not get waxed. These medications make your skin thin, and can tear your skin if you get waxed.
*If you are on your period, or pregnant, waxing is fine, it is just a little more sensitive.

I hope this helped some of you thinking about getting waxed, and didn't know what to expect. If any of you have questions about waxing, or anything else, please ask! And if you do want to make an appointment, just email me, or call me. Thanks!
